Navigating Overwhelm: Finding Calm in the Chaos of Everyday Life

Writer: Margaret O'DonnellMargaret O'Donnell

Calm

Do you ever feel a little overwhelmed? Sometimes, when I look at everything I have to do, I stop and pause, knowing that everything will be okay whether it all gets done or not. I used to believe I needed to get everything right, but now I take it one step, one task at a time.

Slowing down is my mantra now. I can't afford to jump too far ahead and worry excessively. My breath has become vital in managing my feeling of being overwhelmed. When you feel that sense of being overwhelmed, take about five deep breaths and pause. Feel your energy shift and notice how you respond to the list in front of you.

Be present with your feelings, take care of yourself first, and then move through the list one thing at a time. Trust me, you will feel better!

My go-to routine includes:

  1. Starting the day with a 2-minute meditation, some breathwork, and a hot cup of tea or coffee.

  2. Taking deep breaths and spending a few moments journaling.

  3. Moving with intention and being gentle with my thoughts.

Peace, my friends,

Margaret
